Soft computing-based decision support tools for spatial data

Abstract: In many fields, due to the increasing number of automatic sensors and devices, there is an emerging need to integrate georeferenced and temporal data into decision support tools. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Geostatistics lack some functionalities for modelling and reasoning using georeferenced data. Soft computing techniques and software suited to these needs may be useful to implement new functionalities and use them for modelling and decision making. This work presents an open source framework d… Show more

“…CGAL was chosen for its ability to provide very efficient and reliable geometric algorithms, as its functions are developed in C++. Finally, the incorporation of expert knowledge is made possible with FisPro (https://www.fispro.org), a system that uses fuzzy sets for conceptual modeling [30]. Figure 1.…”

“…Some decision support toolboxes have also been integrated with geographic information systems (GIS). Among them are the following: ArcGIS is a toolbox for handling spatial analysis and it was extended by Eldrandaly and Abdelaziz in order to handle multi-criteria decision analysis [79]; Ge-oFIS DSS [80] is an open source suite aimed at providing GIS with new functionalities such as fuzzy modelling and reasoning with georeferenced data in Agronomy (notice that the use of GIS in agriculture is becoming very popular); etc. Moreover, some researchers have proposed specific Matlab toolboxes for decision-making tasks.…”
