Soft color interactions and diffractive hard scattering at the Fermilab Tevatron

Abstract: An improved understanding of nonperturbative QCD can be obtained by the recently developed soft color interaction models. Their essence is the variation of color string-field topologies, giving a unified description of final states in high energy interactions, e.g., diffractive and nondiffractive events in ep and pp. Here we present a detailed study of such models (the soft color interaction model and the generalized area law model) applied to pp, considering also the general problem of the underlying event in… Show more

“…Furthermore, in an earlier paper [8], we showed that all diffractive data from CDF and DØ existing at the time could be reproduced with the same model. This is a nontrivial result, and in fact there is no other model for diffraction in the literature that can achieve this without various types of modifications.…”

“…In ref. [8], we reproduced the diffractive ratios R = σ diff /σ for SD production of W , Z, bb, J/ψ and dijets, as well as various kinematical distributions for dijets. For dijets, the CDF collaboration has also made measurements is DPE events, and we get a reasonable agreement with the cross section, and good agreement with the transverse momentum dependence of the cross section as well as the dijet mass fraction.…”
