Sodium Alginate Fibers Containing Nanosilver

Abstract: This article concerns the process of obtaining fibers made of sodium alginate containing nanosilver. The general objective was to select the proper forming parameters in order to obtain possibly high rates of tensile properties. The specific objective of this investigation was to determine the effect of basic forming parameters on the macroscopic structure, as well as the determination of the tensile, sorption, and resistivity properties of the obtained fibers. The porous structure and morphology studies were … Show more

“…Using the special composition of coagulation bath in the wetspinning technique, one can obtain a range of different alginate fibers incorporating copper, sodium, or calcium or fibers made of alginic acid. Currently, alginate fibers are widely applied in medicine, primarily as dressing materials [6][7][8][9][10][11][12]. Due to their swelling and gelling properties, such dressings do not adhere to the wound and can easily be removed.…”

“…One of the goals of the modification is to improve the properties of functional clothing parameters, affecting the safety of a selected group of users working in extremal environmental conditions like firefighters, rescuers, steel workers [ 26 , 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 ] as well as soldiers and policemen [ 31 , 32 , 33 , 34 , 35 , 36 ]. Surface modification is also commonly used in garments with healing properties [ 37 , 38 , 39 , 40 , 41 , 42 ] as well as smart clothing textiles that monitor the user’s life processes [ 43 , 44 , 45 , 46 , 47 , 48 ]. Surface modification is also commonly used for decorative clothing purposes [ 49 , 50 , 51 , 52 , 53 ].…”

“…Exceeding the range of the 10% concentration results in a significant increase in the apparent dynamic viscosity, which results in an unstable spinning process. In order to obtain a spinning Materials 2022, 15, 4321 2 of 12 solution of the desired physicochemical properties, the apparent dynamic viscosity should maintained between 30 and 60 Pa•s, which ensures stable fibre formation [18,19]. Viscosity is also related to temperature-an increase of one degree Celsius causes a decrease in viscosity of up to 2.5%.…”
