SODAS: Smart Open Data as a Service for Improving Interconnectivity and Data Usability

Abstract: In this study, we proposed Smart Open Data as a Service (SODAS) as a new open data platform based on the international standards Data Catalog Vocabulary (DCAT) and Comprehensive Knowledge Archive Network (CKAN) to facilitate the release and sharing of data. We first analyze the five problems in the legacy CKAN and then draw up corresponding solutions through three core strategies: CKAN expansion, DCATv2 support, and extendable DataMap. We then define four components and nine function blocks of SODAS for each c… Show more

“…It is vital to address these challenges to harness its benefits effectively. In another study [39], the SODAS platform was introduced as a solution for efficient open data sharing. The platform, based on CKAN and DCATv2, addresses five key issues and presents three core strategies to tackle them.…”

“…Most datasets were obtained from Medicare under terms and conditions of use and security caveats. We choose one of them from the Socrata [4], Open Data API (SODA) [22]. Data facilitated in Socrata destinations are accessed using SODA software.…”

“…In [ 22 ] authors identified several problems on the CKAN-based Open Data portals ranging from data management limitation, to no real-time features or absence of interconnection standard, and proposes a solution for improving interconnectivity and data usability expanding the CKAN services. However, it still focuses on the harmonisation of datasets metadata rather than on addressing the challenge of contributing to the usability of the data itself.…”
