Socio-Economic Development of the Far Eastern Territories of Russia Through the Prism of Demographic Characteristics

Abstract

The Far Eastern Federal District (FEFD) is in many ways unique for Russia in terms of a number of social, economic and demographic indicators. It is the largest and most strategically important region for Russia, which ensures the country's representation in the Asia-Pacific region. The purpose of this article is to study modern regional features characteristic of the Far Eastern Federal District in the field of demography. It is noted that the basis of the socio-economic development of the Far Eastern Federal District is not only territories and natural resources, but also human resources. The analysis of publications and statistical data in the field of the studied problem is carried out. It is shown that there is a steady decline in the population in the District due to natural decline and migration outflow; at the same time, depending on the subject of the Far Eastern Federal District, variability of the dynamics of demographic processes is observed. The article presents the data obtained by the authors in the course of a number of studies aimed at identifying the migration intentions and strategies of young people in a particular region (using the example of Primorsky Krai). It is emphasized that the state of the social environment and living conditions are decisive in regulating the demographic situation, since the well-being of a particular territory is largely an incentive for people to settle down, take root, and, therefore, lead to an increase in the birth rate and a decrease in the migration outflow of the population. At the same time, it is recognized that it is important to ensure a transparent mechanism for social and labor migration, without which it is impossible to develop the economy and human potential of the region.
