Socio-Economic Assessment in Environmental Impact Assessment: Experience and Challenges in Lithuania

Abstract: Trinitrotoluene (TNT), a commonly used explosive for military and industrial applications, can cause serious environmental pollution. 28-day laboratory pot experiment was carried out applying bioaugmentation using laboratory selected bacterial strains as inoculum, biostimulation with molasses and cabbage leaf extract, and phytoremediation using rye and blue fenugreek to study the effect of these treatments on TNT removal and changes in soil microbial community responsible for contaminant degradation. “…Human civilization has been facing the degradation of ecological, environmental and socioeconomic conditions due to different construction (Bilgaev et al , 2020). For executing sustainable development, management, and ensuring a healthy future for humanity, socioeconomic impact assessment along with environmental impact assessment (EIA) of any large construction is essential (Hopwood et al , 2005; Robra and Heikkurinen, 2021; Dagiliūtė and Juozapaitiene, 2015). Moreover, ESIA is needed to take or implement any immediate action considering the current state and trends for managing the adverse negative impact.…”

“…At present, certain practical experience has already been accumulated in the use of the developed spaces as landfills for the disposal of non-toxic and lowtoxic mining waste [4][5][6][7][8]. At the same time, such a rock stored in a mined-out space, tailings or dumps can become maternal in the formation of secondary ecosystems, largely determining the local geochemical cycle of matter and energy.…”

“…Xu et al (2016) proves the connection between the air quality and the built environment based on questionnaire surveys in China's industrial areas. Dagiliūtė and Juozapaitienė (2015) assert that cooperation of engineers, environmental science specialists and social science professionals to achieve effective results in all areas, including environmental protection. The examples presented in this paper reveal that there is a favorable energy usage and environmentally aware solution in building energy which has positive effects for human health also.…”
