Socially-Aware Venue Recommendation for Conference Participants

Abstract: Abstract-Current research environments are witnessing high enormities of presentations occurring in different sessions at academic conferences. This situation makes it difficult for researchers (especially juniors) to attend the right presentation session(s) for effective collaboration. In this paper, we propose an innovative venue recommendation algorithm to enhance smart conference participation. Our proposed algorithm, Social Aware Recommendation of Venues and Environments (SARVE), computes the Pearson Corr… Show more

“…Participation recommendation aims at assisting researchers to participate in talks, discussions and so on. Representative papers like [2], [3] and [4] relies mainly on social network built on co-authorships and citation networks to characterize researchers. Publication recommendation focuses more specifically on the activity of contributing research papers.…”

“…Consequently, some researchers [3,7,19,50] have recently argued that, in addition to the interest of users, the social characteristics and influence (such as social ties) of users are relevant factors to consider in a recommendation procedure. In a social tie recommendation approach or procedure, the tie strength (often referred as social influence [14,25]) of users or the central domain is a very important factor to cogitate [19].…”
