Social support and smoking behavior in family

Abstract

Introduction: The family is the intermediary group between the individual and society. It constitutes the primary core of the human being, it incorporates the main patterns of behavior and gives meaning to his life. Objective: Describe social support and smoking behavior in families belonging to the popular council of Mantua in the year 2022. Methods: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out. From a universe of 32 families with the presence of a member with smoking behavior, a sample of 25 families was selected. Theoretical, empirical and descriptive statistics methods were used. Results: 88% had family as the main support network; It is the family that pays for and encourages tobacco consumption; The most frequent support networks were friends, 76%, neighbors, 68% and partners, 68%, regardless of which social support networks were, this was received infrequently in 52% of the families; informational support (20% a lot and 60% some) and emotional support (16% a lot and 44% some), the most received. Conclusions: The families studied count as external resources with family members who do not live together at home, friends and neighbors. They frequently receive informational support, followed by emotional support. They report adequate satisfaction with the support received, as well as having sufficient adaptive resources to face the presence of a member with smoking behavior within the family system.
