No âmbito social, contudo, eles ainda têm muitas dificuldades de assumir essa realidade.…”

“…These challenges contribute to a myriad of social, emotional, and physical struggles experienced at a disproportionate level by many LGB youth including contraction of STIs, suicidality, school dropout, and hesitation to seek medical treatment (Centers for Disease Control 2012; Birkett et al 2009;Kosciw et al 2012). Research also suggests that children of LGB parents are likely to experience bullying due to the sexual orientation of their parents, which can lead to feelings of anger and internalized stigmatization (Kosciw and Diaz 2008;Robitaille and Saint-Jacques 2009). Growing awareness of these issues, and societal concern for the wellbeing of LGB people have increased attention to ways schoolbased interventions (e.g., gay-straight alliance student groups) and policies (e.g., LGB-inclusive nondiscrimination policies) might positively impact the lives of sexual minority students and families (Evans 2002;Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network 2007;Szalacha 2004).…”
