Streszczenie: Social reading jest zjawiskiem angażującym w czytanie jednego tekstu większej grupy ludzi. Celem artykułu jest wyjaśnienie, na czym to zjawisko polega, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem społecznego czytania online. Założenie jest dość proste: ludzie chcą dzielić się tym, co czytają, swoimi przemyśleniami, opiniami itd. i chcą, by na nie reagowano. Technologia w sposób naturalny i oczywisty jest świetnym aktywatorem tego typu działań. Dzięki temu czytanieczynność, która zazwyczaj kojarzy się ze spędzaniem czasu samemu -staje się doświadczeniem wspólnotowym. Na podstawie analizy i krytyki piśmiennictwa artykuł omawia istotę social reading -jego rozwój, różne definicje i typy oraz prezentuje wybrane projekty z tego zakresu.Słowa kluczowe: Bob Stein, czytanie społecznościowe, czytanie online, social reading, The Golden Notebook Projekt, The Open Utopia, Thorn. WprowadzenieZ azwyczaj bywa tak, że zmianom towarzyszy z jednej strony radosne oczekiwanie nowego, a z drugiej strach i niechęć. Podobnie było * Uczestniczka studiów doktoranckich z zakresu bibliologii i informatologii, prowadzonych na Wydziale Nauk Historycznych Uniwersytetu Mikołaja Kopernika w Toruniu. z punktami przełomowymi na drodze do elektronicznych źródeł wiedzy. Jej początków można doszukiwać się już w czasach Platona, który niechętnie spoglądał na pomysł zapisywania filozoficznych rozważań i dzieł literackich. Uważał, że takie poczynania rozleniwią ludzkie umysły, które nie będą już musiały zapamiętywać historii, twierdzeń i przypowieści 1 . Ważnym krokiem ku unowocześnianiu książek był wynalazek druku. Budził on sprzeciw instytucjonalny, m.in. Kościoła, który obawiał się niekontrolowanego przyrostu pism propagujących inne poglądy i wierzenia. Na to jednak szybko znalazł się sposób -indeks ksiąg zakazanych 2 . Bano się również, że sztuka w postaci wizualnej zaniknie, że nie będzie już potrzeby malowania, rzeźbienia itd., skoro wszystko łatwo da się wydrukować. Wynalazek Gutenberga wzbudzał również strach przed umasowieniem literatury, która dotychczas była dostępna tylko dla wybranych. Można powiedzieć, że wynalazek ten wpłynął na powstanie podziału na literaturę wysoką -drukowaną w znacznie mniejszych nakładach i niską -masową. Weronika Kortas*Kolejnymi zmianami, które warto wspomnieć, były radio, a następ-nie telewizja. Tutaj również wróżono śmierć książkom. Eksperci byli przekonani, że dostęp do takich mediów spowoduje zanik umiejętności czytania i pisania. Po co ludzie mieliby czytać, jeżeli można wszystko obejrzeć (i usłyszeć)?Z Internetem miało być jeszcze gorzej. Przeciwnicy nowego medium byli przekonani, że osoby, które zaczną z niego korzystać, skazane są na wtórny analfabetyzm. Przewidywano koniec rynku drukarskiego oraz powrót kultury obrazkowej, co niechybnie oznaczałoby dezintegrację tzw. galaktyki Gutenberga. Jednak żeby móc korzystać z Internetu, trzeba umieć i pisać, i czytać. Medium to stało się miejscem zaspokajania potrzeb m.in. rozrywkowych, komunikacyjnych i informacyjnych. The end of deep reading is a commonplace in public debates, whenever societies talk about youth, books, and the digital age. In contrast to this, we show for the first time and in detail, how intensively young readers write and comment literary texts at an unprecedented scale. We present several analyses of how fiction is transmitted through the social reading platform Wattpad, one of the largest platforms for user-generated stories, including novels, fanfiction, humour, classics, and poetry. By mixed quantitative and qualitative methods and scalable reading we scrutinise texts and comments on Wattpad, what themes are preferred in 13 languages, what role does genre play for readers behaviour, and what kind of emotional engagement is prevalent when young readers share stories. Our results point out the rise of a global reading culture in youth reading besides national preferences for certain topics and genres, patterns of reading engagement, aesthetic values and social interaction. When reading Teen Fiction social-bonding (affective interaction) is prevalent, when reading Classics social-cognitive interaction (collective intelligence) is prevalent. An educational outcome suggests that readers who engage in Teen Fiction learn to read Classics and to judge books not only in direct emotional response to character's behaviour, but focusing more on contextualised interpretation of the text.

Purpose From the point of view of the book chain, self-publishing is becoming increasingly common and it is doing so faster in the commercial world than in science. This study aims to analyse the phenomenon of self-publishing from the point of view of the research being done on it. Thus, in addition to studying the subject, it is going to be possible to analyse the viability of this methodology as an analysis technique. Design/methodology/approach The methodology is based on a combination of traditional bibliometric studies and analysis of social networks applied. Findings Self-publishing is a phenomenon that is being studied by the scientific community. But the research on this topic has a low rate of co-authorship and a low relationship between the most prolific authors and their relevance. The combination of techniques used has proven to be a very good choice for analyzing the data. Originality/value There are not enough works analyzing the research in self-publishing. Because of the peculiarities of the topic, a combination of various techniques will provide a better approach to its study, so, this paper contains some results using bibliometrics and others using social network analysis applied.
