AbsztraktA szerző áttekintést nyújt a szociálismunka-alapképzés keretében kidolgozott "Bevezetés a gerontológiába" tárgyról. Ez a tárgy az idősellátás területéhez kapcsolódó gerontológiai ismereteket helyezi előtérbe, és az idősekkel folyó gyakorlati munkához nyújt gerontológiai alapokat feldolgozva az ahhoz kapcsolódó biogerontológiai, gerontopszichológiai és szociálgerontológiai ismereteket. E tananyag fontos szerepet játszik a " Szociális munka idősekkel" tárgy előkészítésében és a szociális munka különböző területein dolgozó szociális munkások idősekkel kapcsolatos ismereteinek, szemléletének formálásában. Abstract Lajos Szabó: The Role of the Gerontological Knowledge in the Training Programmes for Social WorkThe author gives a view of the "Introduction to Gerontology", which is elaborated for the teaching of social work students in the Social Work BA curricula. The main focus in this teaching material is on the basic knowledge in gerontology connected to the practical field work with older people including topics in biogerontology, gerontological psychology, and socialgerontology. This teaching material play an important role in the preparation of the "Social Work with Older People" subject, and in the form of the knowledge and view about the aging of the social workers on the different social work fields.

Late life is a period frequently marked by decline in personal health and heightened need for social support. Consequently, the social networks in which individuals are embedded assume an increasingly central role in the health and wellbeing of older adults. In the present article, I review the state of the literature on social networks and health in later life. By drawing on insights from the sociology of ageing and the life course, I address new developments and current challenges within the field. Chief among these developments and challenges is the recognition that the ageing process does not occur in a vacuum. Rather, individuals are consistently exposed to numerous changes to their social lives which have strong implications for current and future health outcomes. Upon highlighting the latest innovations within the field of networks and health, I conclude with useful directions for future research.
