Previous studies have found that subjective well-being is associated with social trust, self-compassion, and social empathy. Based on online fieldwork with 662 first-generation college students (54.7% male) in China, this study aimed to investigate the serial mediation effects of self-compassion and social empathy on the relationship between social trust and subjective well-being. The results showed that subjective well-being was significantly positively correlated with social trust, trust in people, self-compassion, and social empathy. Both self-compassion and social empathy partially mediated the relationship between social trust and subjective well-being, and fully mediated the association between trust in people and subjective well-being. We used a serial mediation model to estimate the effect of general social trust, including trust in people, on subjective well-being. The findings that self-compassion and social empathy mediated the relationship between trusting attitudes toward society, especially people, and subjective well-being expand the literature on social trust and the mechanism of social trust on subjective well-being. The results also highlight the significance of improving mental health education and intervention among first-generation college students in China.

Program pembangunan ekonomi nasional berbasis perikanan dan pedesaan secara langsung maupun tidak langsung diharapkan dapat menanggulangi permasalahan ketimpangan wilayah dan keterbatasan modal usaha perikanan. Sejak tahun 2010, Kementerian Kelautan dan Perikanan Indonesia telah melaksanakan program pemberdayaan kepada kelompok nelayan dan kelompok pembudi daya ikan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis kinerja program pemberdayaan masyarakat melalui skema Program Nasional Pemberdayaan Masyarakat Mandiri Kelautan dan Perikanan (PNPM Mandiri KP) pada perikanan tangkap dan budi daya di Kabupaten Lombok Timur. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada tahun 2016 di Kabupaten Lombok Timur. Data primer dikumpulkan dengan cara survei dan informan dipilih secara purposive sampling dilengkapi dengan data sekunder dari berbagai sumber. Analisis deskriptif kuantitatif digunakan untuk melakukan analisis data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa aspek penentuan lokasi bantuan harus diprioritaskan untuk lokasi yang sebagian masyarakatnya bermata pencaharian utama usaha perikanan. Program bantuan perikanan tangkap memiliki peluang keberhasilan yang lebih besar dibandingkan dengan program bantuan perikanan budi daya. Ini dapat dilhat dari dampak program dan potensi keberlanjutan program tersebut.Title: Fisheries Empowerment in East Lombok Regency, Nusa Tenggara Barat ProvinceThe National economic development program based on fisheries and rural area is directly or indirectly address to disparity problem of the region and financial limitation in fisheries. Since 2010, Ministry for Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF) of Indonesia had implemented the empowerment program for fishermen and farmer groups. This study aimed to analyze the performance of community empowerment program namely the National Program for Community Empowerment in Marine and Fisheries (or PNPM Mandiri KP) for capture fisheries and aquaculture in East Lombok Regency. West Nusa Tenggara Province. This research was conducted in 2016. Primary data were collected through a survey and key informants were selected purposively, and supported by secondary data from various sources. Quantitative descriptive analysis was used for data analysis. The results shows that the aspect of location should be prioritized for the community who have major livelihood activity in fisheries sector. The program in capture fisheries have a greater opportunity of successful compared with aquaculture programs. It can be seen from impac of the program and potency of the program sustainability.

Several studies in political psychology reported higher levels of empathy among political leftists (i.e., liberals) as compared to political rightists (i.e., conservatives). Yet, all those studies lean on self-reports, which are often limited by subjective bias and conformity to social norms. Here, we tested this putative asymmetry using neuroimaging: We recorded oscillatory neural activity using magnetoencephalography while fifty-five participants completed a well-validated neuroimaging paradigm for empathy to vicarious suffering. The findings revealed a typical rhythmic alpha-band “empathy response” in the temporal-parietal junction. This neural empathy response was significantly stronger in the leftist than in the rightist group. In addition to this dichotomous division, the neural response was parametrically associated with both self-reported political inclination and with right-wing ideological values. This is the first study to reveal an asymmetry in the neural empathy response as a function of political ideology. The findings reported in this study are in line with the current literature in political psychology and provide a novel, neural perspective to support the ideological asymmetry in empathy. This study opens new vistas for addressing questions in political psychology by using neuroimaging.
