“…Studies carried out during the ZIKV epidemic documented the relationship between the level of education in the face of behavioral changes and the population's knowledge of the prevention of arboviruses. Authors of these studies identified that a lower level of education led to low use of recommended precautions 26,27 , while a higher level of education and better economic conditions favored the adoption of personal protection measures [28][29][30] , corroborating this research. However, approximately 9% of the par-ticipants in this survey reported having a college degree, a number far below the Brazilian level -according to which, in 2019, there were 19.4% women aged 25 years and over who had a college degree 31 , demonstrating that the study participants compose a group of high social vulnerability.…”

“…The provision of guidance without considering the characteristics of the target audience, behavioral changes, and the application of advances in the theory and practice of health communication 27 , 34 is reflected in low adherence to the measure or irregular use, even when a preventive strategy is accessed 28 , 29 , 37 .…”

“…Similar findings have been previously reported in other localities with recent history of arboviral diseases 20,33,36,37,38,39 . These outcomes suggest that knowledge does not necessarily lead to adequate prevention practices, especially in contexts where the complex interactions among environmental and social determinants increase human vulnerability to vector borne diseases 12,13,14,40 . Our findings show a high percentage of domestic risk practices associated with great deficiencies in water supply and sanitation services.…”

“…Nonetheless, characteristics of environments and public infrastructures, as health determinants fundamental parts, could significantly persuade people's ability to perform preventive behaviors and measures 16 . If the impact of these contextual circumstances on people's behaviors and perceptions is not properly considered and addressed, achieving a real change in prevention practices could be a difficult process 11,12,13,14,22,40 .…”
