Recent research has also identified the constraints of quantitative problem-solving instruments, such as the MEPS and endeavored to improve the analysis of problem-solving, Fischler and Kendall (1988) studied whether a qualitative response analysis of problemsolving measures would predict differences in childhood social competence. Using the six stories of the children's MEPS, the qualities under consideration were effectiveness, inappropriateness, aggressiveness, passivity, affective understanding, and interpersonal content for each response, as well as an evaluation of qualitative patterns in the response.…”
