Highlights-Children and adolescents with epilepsy affect social cognition-theory of mind (ToM) and facial emotion recognition (FER). -We quantify the magnitude of deficits in ToM and FER in children and adolescents with epilepsy. -Childhood focal and generalized epilepsy show similar deficits in social cognition. -This may inform the development of structured cognitive interventions for this patient population.This meta-analysis was conducted in line with the Preferred Reporting Items of Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines (40).
