Soccer-Specific Warm-Up and Lower Extremity Injury Rates in Collegiate Male Soccer Players

Abstract: Context: A number of comprehensive injury-prevention programs have demonstrated injury risk-reduction effects but have had limited adoption across athletic settings. This may be due to program noncompliance, minimal exercise supervision, lack of exercise progression, and sport specificity. A soccerspecific program described as the F-MARC 11þ was developed by an expert group in association with the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Medical Assessment and Research Centre (F-MARC) to requir… Show more

“…The main aim of the program is the prevention of the most common injuries in soccer, i.e., ankle and knee sprains and muscle strains, through dynamic and specific exercises [1][2][3] . The efficacy of "FIFA 11+" in injury prevention has been demonstrated [4][5][6] , and its developers classify it as a complete warm-up program since it combines cardiovascular activation and preventive neuromuscular exercises 4,7 . The key element of the program is the promotion of appropriate neuromuscular control during exercise, ensuring good posture and body control (including correct alignment of the joints -hip, knee, and ankle) 4 .…”

“…Current evidence on injury prevention suggests that a solution targeting modifiable risk factors that include physical performance deficits and appropriate return-to-duty criteria is effective in reducing injury risk. 24,25 Our findings indicate that future researchers should also explore the influence of incorporating improvements in baseline physical activity levels, nutritional counseling, and smoking cessation to address occupation-related injury-prevention and human performance optimization programs.…”
