Snow insulation and conservation systems

Abstract: Various aspects of application of polyethylene foam implemented for roof thermal insulation within the frame of one of the sports venues and, closely, the realization of insulation systems for cold conservation on the territory of public sports facilities, particularly for snow storage conservation within ski resorts have been regarded in this article. Additional demands are placed on thermal insulating material for suchlike constructions. Apart from high thermo technical properties, the material should involv… Show more

“…Karapet Ter‐Zakaryan et al. [ 165 ] reported the use of aerogel blankets to protect and conserve snow on the mountainsides and plateaus of ski resorts in Russia. For example, polyethylene foam rollers are used for butt connection and mechanically fixed to form a seamless thermal insulation coating(thermal insulation blanket) covering the entire mountainside.…”

“…As a result, the most commonly employed method in the ski industry is storing snow on the ground with thermal insulation materials, providing flexibility in implementation. For instance, Ter-Zakaryan et al (2019) stored snow on a ski track at the end of the ski season. At glacier ski resorts, the approach involves placing insulation materials directly on top of the natural snow when it reaches its 70 maximum height and removing the materials before the first persistent snowfall occurs in late summer or early autumn (Olefs and Fischer, 2008).…”

“…Preserving snow throughout the summer season is a critical practice in ski industry applications (Grünewald et al, 2018;Ter-Zakaryan et al, 2019;Weiss et al, 2019). Considering the numerous ski resorts and venues in the Beijing and Chongli regions, snow storage becomes indispensable in the context of global warming.…”
