“…This finding is in agreement with previous results carried on snake bites in Saudi Arabia (Al-Sadoon and Jarrar,1994;AlDurihim et al, 2010;Mahaba, 2000;Al-Mohareb and AlSadoon, 1994) and with other studies in different countries such as Brazil where 89.5% of the patients were males (Franco et al, 2001); southeast of Arabian peninsula where the majority (87%) were male farmers (Al-Kaabi et al, 2011); Morocco where 53% were males (Arfaoui et al, 2009) and the snake bite patients were males (96%) in Isfahan province, Iran (Dehghani et al, 2014a,b). Snake bites in males outnumbered females in the present investigation.…”

“…The result of present investigation is in agreement with a previous study on the incidence of snake bites of the same province during the period 1986-1988 (Al-Sadoon and Jarrar, 1994). The present results are similar to those found in different regions of Saudi Arabia such as Asir and Hail which showed that snake bite is a medical problem (Al-Mohareb and Al-Sadoon,1994; Malik, 1995;Mahaba, 2000;Al-Durihim et al, 2010).…”

“…This result corroborates some studies in Saudi Arabia and Brazil (18)(19)(20), but differs from others by Tchoua et al In addition, although snake activity is generally nocturnal, most bites in our study happened during the daytime, unlike the night prevalence reported in other studies (18,20). The smaller number of cases at night may be explained by the fact that human activity is mainly diurnal or that, in some regions, the staff responsible for recording admitted cases are absent during the night.…”

“…For the same reason, males were more afflicted with bites than females. Similar results have been reported by many studies in Africa and Asia (18,21,(26)(27)(28).…”
