SMED methodology based on fuzzy Taguchi method

Abstract: Purpose There can be activities that cannot reduce times by conventional single minute exchange of die (SMED) tools. In this case more advanced tools are needed. The purpose of this paper is to integrate the fuzzy Taguchi method into the SMED method in order to improve the setup time. The reason for using fuzzy logic is the subjective evaluation of factor’s levels assessment by experts. Subjective assessment contains a certain degree of uncertainty and is vagueness. The fuzzy Taguchi method provides to determi… Show more

“…With the application of norms and standardization of processes, defects in the production process are prevented and, in turn, procedures are established so that the appearance of other errors that may have an impact on production can be avoided. In this sense, it is desirable to standardize all processes carried out in the manufacturing sector [15].…”

“…The SMED technique focuses on the reduction of machine setup times [33]. The relevance of SMED application lies in the fact that a minimum setup time allows greater flexibility in the production process [34]. There are several successful cases of the application of the technique to reduce machine setup times with results between 45% to 75% and achieve an increase in overall equipment efficiency (OEE) [33]- [36].…”
