Waste collection has become a major issue all over the world, especially when it is offered as a service for businesses; unlike public waste collection where the parameters are relatively homogeneous. This industry can greatly benefit from new sensing technologies and advances in artificial intelligence that have been achieved over the last few years. However, in most situations waste management systems are based on obsolete technologies, with a low level of interoperability and thus offering static processes. The most advanced solutions are generally limited to statistical, non-predictive approaches and have a limited view of reality, making them weakly effective in dealing with day-to-day business issues (overflowing containers, poor quality of service, etc.). This paper presents a case study currently being developed in Luxembourg with a company offering a business waste collection service, which has a significant amount of constraints to consider. Our main objective is to investigate the use of multiple waste data sources to derive useful indicators for improving collection processes. We start with company-owned historical data and then investigate GPS information from tracking devices positioned on collection trucks. Furthermore, we analyze data collected from ultrasonic sensors deployed on almost 50 different containers to measure fill levels. We describe the deployment steps and show that this approach, combined with anomaly detection and prediction techniques, has the potential to change the way this business operates. We also discuss the interest of the different datasets presented and multi-objective optimization issues. To the best of our knowledge, this article is the first major work dedicated to the world of professional waste collection.

The incorporation of technology in waste management of smart cities will immensely contribute to the reduction of cost and complexities of current waste management systems by improving their efficiency, health safety, and productivity. It will also help to lessen the negative impact of waste management activities on the environment, thus contributing to the smart city scenario. Present designs are not refined enough to accomplish a liberal, generous and viable waste organization segment.Various solutions have been offered for implementing smart collection, transportation, and disposal of waste, yet efficient waste management has not been achieved.. It is basic to have a sharp technique for directing and coordinating waste and also the garbage level should be educated in-time when to be taken, and likewise, all the accomplices should know that what kind of waste in what sum needs to be collected.To ensure such efficient collection and management of waste, we propose a "Smart Bin for Waste Management System using Communication Platform as a Service Clouds & Internet of Things (IoT)". In this prototype system, a unique ID is assigned to each garbage bin. The bins are equipped with an embedded system to measure the garbage level and other indicators such as temperature and tilt in the garbage bin. These sensors detect different events such as the bin getting filled up to its maximum level or tilting beyond a certain threshold and the system sends an alert message to the municipal authorities or central monitoring station using SMS, E-mail, & Voice-call. It also provides route optimization to the pickup vehicle, responsible for garbage collection in the concerned area.

Now a days, waste management is a huge problem in the world. Key issue involved in waste management is waste collection within time, without overflowing the dustbins in public places. This paper presents an energy efficient waste management systems using IoT. This system measures the level of dust bin for every 30 minutes and sends the level to the cloud or database. Whenever the dustbin is full, it will send the location (longitude and latitude values) of dustbin to nearest garbage truck driver's application. An application is developed for showing dust bin level and to track the location of the dust bin for truck drivers. This system will operate for every 30 minutes to increase the battery life and remaining time system will be in sleep mode. Wi-Fi technology is used for sending the dustbin level to database.
