Smart resource allocation for improving QoE in IP Multimedia Subsystems

Abstract: IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is a robust multimedia service. IMS becomes more important when delivering multimedia services. Multimedia service providers can benefit from IMS to ensure a good QoE (Quality of Experience) to their customers with minimal resources usage. In this paper, we propose an intelligent media distribution IMS system architecture for delivering video streaming. The system is based primarily on uploading a multimedia file to a server in the IMS. Later, other users can download the uploaded… Show more

“…Namun, dalam penggunaannya IMS masih berbasis hardware-dedicated dan hal ini menyebabkan pengguanaan IMS menjadi tidak efisien dikarenakan perlunya penggantian server IMS atau penambahan server akibat pengguna layanan yang semakin meningkat. Sehingga hal tersebut menyebabkan Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) atau pengeluaran operasional perusahaan membengkak setiap terjadi penambahan atau pergantian server IMS [1].…”

“…However, previous cooperative recovery schemes did not take the hierarchical encoding structure of SVC into account, which may not lead to a significant gain to SVC-based video multicast. In other words, from the perspective of user's Quality-of-Experience (QoE) [14], simply boosting the transmission rate does not necessarily result in improvements in the user perception of the video quality [15].…”

“…Mobile communication networks have become the main method of access to the Internet, which has significantly increased the number of mobile devices connected to the global network [1] Once the services offered by network operators tend to involve solutions completely based on IP protocol [2] and the communication sessions must be maintained along the user´s movement through networks, the IP mobility management is a factor of extreme impact for communication networks [3]. This aspect is essential for a great number of applications, including video streaming, and the evaluation of network parameters such as bandwidth, delay and packet loss [4] is of great importance for assessing the QoE of the end-users.…”
