Ration card plays a vital role for the household details such as to get gas connection, family member details, it acts as address proof etc. In this paper, we have proposed a smart ration card system using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Technique and IoT to prevent the malpractices and corruption in the current ration distribution system. In this system conventional ration card will be replaced by a unique RFID tag. This RFID tag will be verified at the fair price shop for the authentication of the user. The user’s identity will be verified by microcontroller which is connected to an Amazon Web Services (AWS) database. For added security One Time Password (OTP) is also sent to user’s registered mobile number which needs to be entered in the system. If user is found to be authentic then monthly quota of the ration available for the user is displayed. After successful transaction the database will be updated stating the ration content delivered to the user. This system will require very less human efforts for operation and is also very secure. By implementing this system government can keep track of all the delivered ration content very easily. Keywords- RFID; IoT, Microcontroller, AWS, OTP

Biometric Authentication Based Automated Ration Disbursal for Public Distribution System

This paper proposes a novel application for automating the Public Distribution System. The Government of India supplies essential commodities for everyday use like food grains (rice, wheat), kerosene (fuel for cooking) etc. to a large number of people by an elaborate machinery called Public Distribution System (PDS). This system currently works on manual processes. In this work, it is proposed that Smart Automated Ration Disbursal System (SARDS) using IoT replace the manual processes in PDS. This system consists of Embedded Controllers for online biometric authentication of the consumer, smart measuring for accurate disbursal of the commodities and real-time updating of data on the server. A prototype system to demonstrate its working is built using Arduino and Raspberry Pi controllers. An automatic dispensing system for solid as well as liquid commodity is fabricated and interfaced with the controllers using solenoid valves and sensors. Robust feedback is built into the system using sensors for accurate disbursal of material and detection of theft. Finally, experimental results showing accuracy of delivery of material and time required to process one consumer request are tabulated and analyzed. This system, when deployed in actual field, is expected to be operational 24x7 and ensure safe, secure, fast and corruption-free distribution of Ration commodities to the general public

Indian perspective in food traceability: A review

India is the second largest producer of fruit and vegetables in the world. Fruit production in India has increased 89% in the last decade. In the present paper It is exposed the necessity for a proper traceability in the Indian food industry, because the sector is demanding an adequate system due to the precarious nature of existing supply chain, and to reduce the numerous cases of food safety incidents and fraudulence. This work also presents the existing traceability techniques in India which include RFID, Holograms, Barcode, Nuclear techniques and other tracking media to monitor production process. Furthermore it is revealed the initiatives implementation from APEDA and its association with GS1 India in the form of Anarnet, Peanut.net, Meat.net, and Grapenet for the Indian farming products, as well as several ICTs initiatives that are actively working in many states of India. However the development of an effective food traceability system is affected by a numbers of factors like restrictive government marketing standardization, insecure policies and unstable actions for food safety, underdeveloped and unorganized infrastructure in market area and the supply chains, from the farmers to non-existent cold chain facilities and small local stores, and inadequate agricultural practices with large number of small and medium industries and famers. Therefore an effective food traceability system is not only an important tool to manage food quality and safety risks, but also to promote the development of effective supply chain management in India.
