Smart Priority Based Power Load Switching Using Programable Logic Controller Automation

Abstract

There is a need for reliability in the system to be preserved in power management systems. It is always important to balance power consumption and output, as any major imbalance may cause instability or extreme voltage fluctuations within the power system. This results in the whole power system failing. The objective of this research is to provide uninterrupted power through generators to the top priority load by automatically disconnecting the low priority load in the event of power failure or peak load. Also, it intelligently disconnects the surplus generators from the bus bar in the event of less demand. This can be done using power measurement devices and magnetic contactors on both the generation and the load side. Power measurement devices transmit the power generated and power consumed data to the PLC, whereby the PLC sends the signal to magnetic contactors to effectively link or detach the load or generator.
