Smart Prepaid Energy Meter based on Internet of Things

Abstract: As the advancement of technology and dependencies over the electrical appliances increases, the usage and requirement of electricity is also increases rapidly. Eliot is a smart energy prepaid meter based on Internet of Things [1] . This smart meter [2] will be helpful in generating the real-time data of the electricity usage. Users will be able to see their daily usage from a web app with the help of their unique identification number and password provided to them at the time of installation of this device. Th… Show more

“…This is an Internet of Things (IoT) method of transmitting, storing and accessing meter readings, therefore it is not a prepaid meter. Mayur et al proposed the interfacing of an electronic circuitry called Eliot with a unique identification to an electric meter, and a web application also designed where the device can be recharged and the consumer can view the information about their real time consumption as well through a user account created, which the consumer can log into using a password [18]. This is a web based energy consumption monitoring system and not a prepaid meter.…”

“…In other words IoT as is defined by ITU 1 and IERC 2 is a dynamic global network infrastructure with self-configuring capabilities based on standard and interoperable communication protocols, in which, physical and virtual "things" have identities, physical attributes and virtual personalities, use intelligent interfaces and are seamlessly integrated into the information network. [5], [7] 3 History of internet of things (IoT) [8] The idea of devices exchanging information without human appeared not long ago. Full automation of data transmission was discussed in the late '70s.…”
