Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) have been known to physicians for decades. Unfortunately, so far there are many unknowns regarding CD and UC. There are numerous descriptions of clinical cases, different locations of disease symptoms, and descriptions of symptoms located both in the gastrointestinal tract and symptoms accompanying the disease.All this information sheds light on the etiology of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) do not completely resolve their complexity. An analysis of the literature presented in the work indicates that the characteristics of diseases are often unambiguous. This contributes to the fact that IBD diagnostics are often difficult and create many problems [1][2][3]. Despite many years of research on inflammatory bowel diseases, they are still of interest to scientists today. Nonspecific inflammatory bowel disease is a term referring to chronic and recurrent gastrointestinal disease. A number of clinical symptoms distinguish between CD and UC, whose clinical picture is relatively diverse. However, in many cases the diagnosis is not straightforward, which contributes to the interest of researchers worldwide in the disorders under discussion. The inflammatory changes in the course of UC are continuous and limited to the mucous membrane of the large intestine. UC-related inflammation usually involves the mucosa and submucosa usually begins in the rectum and spread proximal to the colon. The affected tissue is swollen, with the presence of erosions and ulcers, which lead to spontaneous bleeding.In most cases, UC initially occurs smoothly, with worsening symptoms within a few weeks. It happens, however, that the disease begins suddenly and goes very quickly. In such cases, due to the lack of the effect of conservative treatment, surgical treatment is already implemented in the early stages of the disease. However, in most cases, after the first shot of the disease, it goes into remission, after which it becomes more severe again. Such continuous conditions of illness and remission may last even several dozen years [1,2]. In the case of CD, the condition most often includes the small intestine and caecum, which accounts for 40% of cases, only small intestine (30% of patients) and only large intestine (25% of cases). In situations where only the large intestine is covered, two forms of the disease are recognized. Crohn's disease (CD) is a chronic intestinal disturbance mediated by mucosal immune hyperactivity that is often associated with the formation of stenosis. No reliable solution to stenosis CD exists so far. Therefore, we generated carboxymethyl chitosan oligosaccharide (CMCOS) as a new promising therapy and investigate its efficacy in an improved rat CD model. CMCOS was synthesized by enzymatic hydrolysis, and its biosafety was evaluated in vivo. The rat model of stenosis CD was optimized by an orthogonal experiment of 75 or 100 mg/kg trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid (TNBS) in a 50 or 75% ethanol enema. The therapeutic efficacy of CMCOS on the rat model of stenosis CD was investigated and compared with the commercial drug 5-aminosalicylic acid over a 28 day period of disease progression. The rat model of stenosis CD was well established by intracolonic administration of 75 mg/kg TNBS in 75% ethanol. CMCOS significantly alleviated CD symptoms morphologically, hematologically, and pathologically, promoting functional recovery of intestinal epithelium in a dose-dependent manner. CMCOS reduced infiltrations of inflammatory cells by regulating the IL-17A/PPAR-γ pathway and reduced fibro-proliferation and fibrodegeneration of the colon tissue by downregulating the TGF-β1/WT1 pathway. 75 mg/kg TNBS in a 75% ethanol enema induces a rat model of stenosis CD suitable for preclinical pathology and pharmacological studies. The safety, antifibrosis, and functional repair performance of CMCOS make it a promising candidate for the treatment of stenosis CD.

This paper presents a method that binds statistical and data mining techniques, which aims to support the decision-making process in selected diseases of the digestive system. Currently, there is no precise diagnosis for ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn’s disease (CD). Specialist physicians must exclude many other diseases occurring in the colon. The first goal of this study is a retrospective analysis of medical data of patients hospitalised in the Department of Gastroenterology and Internal Diseases, Bialystok, and finding the symptoms differentiating the two analysed diseases. The second goal is to build a system that clearly points to one of the two diseases UC or CD, which shortens the time of diagnosis and facilitates the future treatment of patients. The work focuses on building a model that can be the basis for the construction of action rules, which are one of the basic elements in the medical recommendation system. Generated action rules indicated differentiating factors, such as mean corpuscular volume, platelets (PLTs), neutrophils, monocytes, eosinophils, basophils, alanine aminotransferase (ALAT), creatinine, sodium and potassium. Other important parameters were smoking and blood in stool.
