Today, smart city principles are emerging as a highly relevant method in contemporary urban planning and development. In line with international trends, nations almost without exception have smart city strategies. The assessment system supporting smart development strategies for EU municipalities defines complex indicators in six thematic sub-systems: smart mobility, smart environment, smart people, smart living conditions, smart governance, smart economy. One monitoring aspect of the smart living subsystem is safety. The smart cities of the future will be made up of a network of smart buildings, which will fundamentally determine fire safety based on prevention. In this monitoring theme, the researchers will show how the future of fire safety - a cornerstone of safety- will evolve in smart buildings of smart cities. The researchers will describe the potential of building a smart fire safety network using data generated by building information modelling. They will show how BIM-based complex digital fire safety can be integrated into the fire safety network based on the new digital “one urban one plan” regulation in Hungary. The authors show that their method is suitable for the expansion of a smart cities database based on a digital urban plan.

The villages in the Slamet mountain area has two exciting sides, as it carries abundant potential but is prone to disasters. Fascinatingly, the local community can transform disaster-prone villages by hammering the development of potential natural tourism potential, bringing benefits for nature conservation and economic resilience. Therefore, this study aims to describe the disaster-prone village’s processes in developing their tourism potential into a source of socioeconomic and cultural resilience, as well as safe tourism. This qualitative research used purposive sampling for selecting the informant, while the data collection methods were carried out through in-depth interviews, observations, and focus group discussions (FGDs). Then, the interactive data analysis methods were adopted in analyzing the data, while data validity was examined through triangulation. The results show that the key to success in developing disaster-prone villages into safe tourism and environmental preservation is determined by community resilience and leadership, the development of pro-disaster villages into tourism potential with a social, economic, cultural, and environmental safety net, the success of village institutions to encourage community change. This study concludes that disaster-prone villages in the mountainous region of Slamet can turn threats into potential benefits for rural communities. Therefore, the presence of disaster areas is needed not only for concepts but as an example of implementations that benefit local communities.

Japan is regarded as an interesting source for drawing useful lessons that could help in drafting the process for transforming the Polish energy mix. The reason is very simple: the two countries have relatively similar starting points. A large proportion of the Japanese energy mix is still based on fossil fuels. We can already observe a slow but evident drift away from fossil fuels (from some 85% in 2013 to less than 75% in 2019). Another reason why Japan is relevant to the Polish conditions is the recent decision of the new government in Japan to return to nuclear energy after the Fukushima disaster. Other interesting solutions in the Japanese way forward include the wide use of hydrogen and ammonia; that could be interesting for Poland, because it is a major producer of hydrogen: the fifth in the world and the third in Europe. Grey hydrogen is currently produced, but that could easily be transformed into green hydrogen produced using distributed solar installations. It also seems that nobody in Poland is seriously working on the use of ammonia in the energy sector. Those reasons alone would be enough to choose Japan as the country for the analysis presented below, therefore the literature review is limited to the Japanese sphere. A short historical view of the energy-mix configuration is followed by an enumeration of the important aspects to consider for Polish conditions: energy security and energy efficiency, followed by an analysis of important sources of energy: nuclear, renewable energy sources (RES), hydrogen, and ammonia as well as thermal power development.
