Background: Despite the increasing demands for blood and its products, some people, especially the youth, have little interest in donating blood. Objective: This study aimed to assess the university students' awareness of and attitude towards blood donation. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, a descriptive analytical approach was used to examine awareness of and attitude towards blood donation among students in Semnan University of Medical Sciences, Semnan, Iran. The study was performed in 2015-2016. A total of 749 university students participated in this study. A special questionnaire was used to collect demographic information and the participants' awareness of and attitude towards blood donation. Before beginning the main phase of the study, the reliability and validity of the questionnaire were examined and verified. The SPSS software, version 16, was used for statistical analysis. We used descriptive statistics, specifically chi-square and Friedman tests, to analyze the data. A p-value of <0.05 was considered significant. Results: 63.55% of the participants were female. Only 9.74% of the participants had a history of blood donation. Based on the results, 253 participants (35.33%) had low awareness, 352 participants (49.16%) had moderate awareness, and 111 participants (15.5%) had good awareness of blood donation. In addition, 176 participants (23.59%) had negative attitude, 438 participants (58.71%) had moderate attitude, and only 132 participants (17.69%) had good attitude towards blood donation. Results also showed a statistically significant relationship between gender and awareness of the history of blood donation (p=0.047). However, there was no significant relationship between gender and attitude towards blood donation (p=0.27). When asked about their favorite method of receiving information about blood donation, 376 participants (50.2%) preferred social media. Conclusion: A considerable percentage of students have low awareness of and negative attitude towards blood donation. The low awareness and negative attitude towards blood donation can be considered as important factors contributing to the lack of interest and poor participation in blood donation among this population. Therefore, there is a critical need for training and culture building activities and programs in order to increase university students' awareness and improve their attitude towards blood donation.

An emergency system that directs the quick accessibility and availability of blood and delivery is entitled in a blood donation center. There exists a high demand for blood as a life saver in case of emergencies and the primary purpose of these blood donation centers meant to supply blood to the needy people. The unavailability of donor at the correct time is the foremost issue met by several people in case of emergencies. In our work, a group of people with data about their blood group and other details are made as a software for easy access. An application software has been developed where the Blood donation centers can inform about the Blood Stock and supply to people at urgent times. Since there are several steps involved in donating blood manually, the reliability and precision will be less. The proposed automatic blood bank system has been planned and developed into sector which involves sensors like temperature sensor, IR sensor, GSM module interfaced with Arduino Mega. Subsequent sector comprises of Wi-Fi module for files transference to administrator and third sector has been designed to monitor the position of existing blood stock. Entirely the web page designed narrates the obtainable blood stock in the blood bank which will be displayed on web page, so that the needy person can acquire required blood group from neighboring blood donation center.

The population of the country of Kenya is drastically increasing thus causing the number of possible blood donors to rise. Despite this, the blood collected and stored in most blood banks is not enough to cater for the huge demand. The demand has been due to increase of number of accidents experienced in the country and the advancement in medical procedures which calls for organ transplant and blood transfusion. Even though systems have been developed which can connect the donors and recipients and location tracking, most people are dying because they don`t get this vital commodity in good time. The process of donating blood has not been enticing. There is nothing that prompts a person to donate blood. This call for developing a gamified blood donor management system based on intelligent agents so as to increase the number of donors and keep the system performance at optimal level. The project adopts Goal-Oriented Methodology in the system development process. Two agents are developed: donors’ agent and the blood admin agent. The intelligent agents help in profiles personalization thus improving the system performance. Gamification technique is implemented in the system so as to increase the traffic of blood donors interacting with the system and participating in the donation exercise. This increase the number of blood donors hence enough blood is collected to cater for the huge demand.
