Smart and self‐organised routing algorithm for efficient IoT communications in smart cities

Abstract: Internet of Things (IoT) does not stop integrating an important number of components and objects that are characterised by their complexity and heterogeneity. Such constraints make the existing routing protocols unsuitable for IoT communications in a smart cities environment. To accomplish all the expected tasks and satisfy the user services, it is important to guarantee a quality of communication that answers to the requirements of smart cities applications in terms of data and processing. This study addresse… Show more

“…Recently, significant research efforts have been made to apply RL to wireless sensor networks (WSN) and IoT. Several approaches were proposed, including the cooperative approach, which is one of the most used in many works, such as SSAR in [8], FROMS in [25], OPT-Q-Routing in [26], EQR-RL in [27], and the work by [28]. is approach is deemed to be suitable for multiagent RL models where agents are required to cooperate and work together for the same purpose.…”

“…In [8], the authors proposed a smart and self-organizing routing algorithm (SSAR), which selects the best route based on some communication parameters, namely, the distance between nodes, the stability of links, and residual energy of IoTdevices. ese parameters have an impact on the stability and energy-efficient routing.…”

“…In the literature, several protocol proposals for IoT networks can be found, [18][19][20][21] developed based on different methodologies. Routing protocols can be divided into two types: proactive and reactive.…”

“…Internet of things (IoTs) is the network of devices, and recent research proposed a performance degradation of IoTs communications in smart cities by using a new routing algorithm to improve them. This study has figured out an algorithm defined as smart and self-organised routing algorithm (SSRA), which can be selected as the best route for the packets and for which SSRA can be extended to the devices lifetime by parameter of fair and efficient energy consumption (Hamrioui et al, 2018). Due to this reason, the IoTs growing popularity is gaining more attention as the security and sensitivity problem in IoTs device applications and sensor-based threats to IoT devices is developed.…”
