Small molecule growth inhibitors from Albatrellus flettii and Sarcodon scabripes native to British Columbia

Abstract: The first part of this thesis investigated the growth-inhibitory and immunomodulatory potential of six wild Canadian mushrooms. Out of 24 crude extracts, six showed strong growthinhibitory activity, two exhibited strong immuno-stimulatory activity and nine demonstrated potent anti-inflammatory activity. The second part of this thesis involved purification and characterization of growthinhibitory compounds from Albatrellus flettii. Liquid-liquid extraction, Sephadex LH-20 and HPLC-Mass Spectrometry (HPLC-MS) we… Show more

“…This project was first started by Mr. Almas Yaqoob, a former MSc student in Dr. Lee's lab, investigating and screening six wild mushrooms collected from Northern BC for their growthinhibitory and immunomodulatory activities (Yaqoob, 2019). The 80% ethanol (E1) and 50% methanol (E2) extracts of S. scabripes demonstrated more than 80% inhibition of cell viability when treated at 0.375 mg/ mL.…”
