“…Neonate remains have not been recovered (and a bias against them is rejected since small mustelid remains have been found as well as neonate bones of other taxa). Moreover, neither rabbits nor birds occur and there are only very few micromammals (Cuenca-Bescos et al, 1997). Although in our opinion the data are more consistent with the trap hypothesis, a pattern of incidental deaths of foxes attracted into the cave by scavenging opportunities or going in for temporary shelter cannot be completely discarded.…”

“…The carnivore assemblage of the Sima de los Huesos, containing among other taxa, a well documented and relatively primitive form of Ursus deningeri, is compatible with the upper Middle Pleistocene age suggested by the geochronological dating (Bischoff et al, 1997) and the biostratigraphic conclusions based on micromammals (Cuenca-Bescos et al, 1997). In particular, the presence of an archaic form of U. deningeri (i.e., not transitional to U. spelaeus), together with the rest of the carnivore assemblage, points to an isotope stage 7 age or (probably) older.…”

“…Earlier radiometric and paleomagnetic analyses, as well as bio CnTnnlDlOglcal data, to an age interval of 200-300 ka (OIS 7-9) or a minimum age of 350 ka for the SH hominins et al, 1997;Cuenca-Bescos et al, 1997;Pares et al, 2000;Bischoff et al, 2003). However, new high-precision dating on a recently discov ered the human remains yielded new dates that cluster around 600 ka.…”

“…Ces deux dernières M/1 ont pour longueur 2,50 et 2,53 mm. Leur dimension est très proche de la longueur moyenne des M/1 de la couche TD4 de la Gran Dolina d'Atapuerca qui est de 2,58 mm alors que les individus qui proviennent des couches plus anciennes du même locus d'Atapuerca sont un peu plus grandes : 2,66 et 2,77 mm pour ceux de la couche TD4 et 2,86 mm pour celui de la couche TD3 , 1997, 2010a.…”
