“…At the same time, in the period analysed, agriculture preserves approximately the same areal extension, but shows a tendency to replace arable land with an association of covers with a greater presence of perennial crops and natural vegetation patches. The loss of arable land is clearly attributable to the ageing of population and migration flows (Cardillo andCimino, 2022, Santelli et al, 2022). From the management point of view, we observed a peculiar condition marked by the crisis of the primary sector suggesting to farmers to differentiate their production rather than risking capitals on a single type of crop (Ronza et al, 2013).…”

“…Additionally, it has been employed to assess the impact of rural development policies and programs [33][34][35][36], with a specific focus on organic farming [37][38][39]. Other studies have explored agricultural sustainability [40][41][42][43], delved into on-farm diversification and multifunctionality [44][45][46][47][48], compared technical efficiency between organic and conventional farming practices [49][50][51], and investigated the profitability of farms, both broadly and when considering distinct farming practices or specific production processes [52][53][54][55][56][57].…”

“…According to a survey of 360 farmers in Italy, only 4.4 % declared to currently use UAV in their fields [25], mainly due to high initial investment. However, in the EU, small farms cover about 86% of all farms [20]; in Italy, this category counts 6771 farms [26]. Nevertheless, small farms are vital for preserving the territory and local rural areas' economic development [26].…”
