“…Interviews and focus group discussions for case‐studies in the project SUFISA were structured according to the common Conditions‐Strategies‐Performances (CSP) heuristic framework that allows the methodological reliability for a comparative analysis. In the CSP framework adopted, Conditions are ‘the external (sector specific) and internal (farm specific) factors that a producer within a given commodity chain has to cope with’, Strategies are ‘actions that allow producers to respond to and manage internal and external conditions’, and Performance is ‘understood in terms of a general analysis of perceived likely outcomes of particular strategies’ (Grando et al., 2020; Maye et al, 2018, p. 17). The main goal that lies underneath this analytical approach is to identify and disentangle how the conditions and strategies impact the performance of fisheries and farms, including their longer‐term sustainability and resilience.…”

“…The overall methodology was designed to capture the perspectives of farmers and financial actors (including banks). The data were analysed using the conditions-strategies-performance (CSP) approach (Grando et al 2019), which was developed as an analytical approach to structurally engage with farmers' decision-making processes. The approach conceptualises agricultural processes as a series of producers' strategies aimed at reacting to internal and external conditions.…”

“…This results in a static understanding of business model typologies. A broader perspective has been adopted by Grando et al (2020), who argued that conditions encompass the comprehensive business environment, including various factors that influence wineries' behavior. Similarly, Vergamini et al (2019) identified a set of conditions specific to the wine sector at regional level, including physical factors, agro-ecological conditions, regulations, standards, firm resources and capabilities, and sociocultural factors related to terroir characteristics.…”

“…Value proposition shifts consequently shape sustainability practices and innovative BMs. Drawing on the insights of Vergamini et al (2019) and Grando et al (2020), we gage producers' capacity to shape strategies. Our analysis of internal conditions encompasses a wide spectrum of factors influencing strategies, such as resources, capabilities, culture, and mission, with a focus on core business attributes, notably scale.…”
