Small bowel ischemia as an unusual complication of Henoch‐Schönlein purpura in an adult: A case report

Abstract: Henoch‐Schönlein purpura (HSP) is a systemic vasculitis affecting small vessels. It is the most common systemic vasculitis in children and is rare in adults. Serious gastrointestinal complications are more common in children than in adults. We describe a case of new‐onset HSP in a previously healthy 63‐year‐old male who required an emergency laparotomy for acute small bowel ischemia.
