Slope Modification during the Late Pleistocene in the Natori River Drainage Basin

Abstract

This study tephrochronologically eludidates that front and back slopes of the terrace III (before. ca. 30,000 yr B.P.) had been modified into gentle ones in a slope declining process under the Late Pleistocene cold climatic condition even in the lowland of the mid-temperate or southern cool temperate zone, Japan and that in the active modification of slopes there existed a hiatus of 40,000 yr B.P. to 30,000 yr B.P., when a weathered horizon and gully erosion occurred.
