Slips of the Pen, Tongue, and Typewriter: A Contrastive Analysis

Abstract: This article reviews available data on spontaneous and evoked slips of the pen, tongue, and typewriter, and concludes that slips of the pen and typewriter exhibit different regularities from slips of the tongue and reflect different constraints on production. The comparison of these three classes of slips also clarifies some of the similarities and differences in the processes underlying speech, writing and typewriting.
