Slip pulse along an interface between two anisotropic elastic half-spaces in sliding contact with separation

Abstract: The Stroh sextic formalism, together with Fourier analysis and the singular integral equation technique, is used to study the propagation of a possible slip pulse in the presence of local separation at the interface between two contact anisotropic solids. The existence of such a pulse is discussed in detail. It is found that the pulse may exist if at least one medium admits Rayleigh wave below the minimum limiting speed of the two media. The pulse-propagating speed is not fixed; it can be of any value in some … Show more

“…Then by using the surface impedance tensor Z, the relation of A (j) (s) and L (j) (s) or A (j) * (s) and L (j) * (s) can be written as [10,14] A j (s) = sgn(s)i(Z j ) −1 n · Γ(s),…”

“…Among them, Yu and Wang analyzed the propagation of a slip pulse along a frictionless contact interface with local separation. [10] However, so far, few studies on the propagation of slip waves along the contact interface in piezoelectric media have been published. Alshits [12] and Darinskii [13] analyzed the linear problem of slip waves propagating along a contact interface in piezoelectric media without considering the local separation.…”

“…Wang et al [12][13][14][15][16] further analyzed some interesting problems employing an exact method similar to Comninou and Dundurs', e.g., the propagation of SH waves in a layered half space with a frictional contact interface; the re-polarization of elastic waves at a frictional contact interface; and the propagation of elastic waves through a contact interface between two anisotropic or piezoelectric solids. Qiang et al [17] studied the propagation of harmonic waves through a micro gap in presence of smooth contact using Fourier analysis technique and corrective solution method and find that energy partition at the interface is quite sensitive to the gap width.…”
