Sleeve gastrectomy and pancreas omentoplasty improved β cell insulin expression and interleukin-1β serum level in non-obese diabetes mellitus rat

Abstract: Background: Diabetes mellitus is one of the health problems that is growing rapidly today. In Asia, majority of the population are non-obese with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). Two main defects of T2DM, insulin resistance and impaired insulin secretion due to reduced pancreatic β cells. Persistent metabolic stress due to hyperglycemic conditions, causes inflammation of the islets of Langerhans. Interleukin-1β (IL-1β) signaling is the most frequent pathway inducing β cell dysfunction. The bariatric Sleeve… Show more

“…(14) Previous studies also suggests that SG procedure had the same effect on TNF-α and IL-1 as other common bariatric procedures and when combined with other techniques. (15,16) Hence, it could be assumed that SG could produce better medical outcomes for the patient, however the association with TNF-α and IL-1 has not been elucidated well enough. Therefore, this study was aimed to determine the weight loss, reduced fasting blood glucose (FBG), as well as the decrease of TNF-α and IL-1 gene expression in the abdominal aorta of obese and DM rats undergoing SG procedures.…”

“…Until now, the management of liver disease is still focused on treating the primary disease; the only rational treatment for liver fibrosis is liver transplantation. Liver transplantation was clearly stated as the sole option of treatment when body having a liver failure [3]. While the success rate data were stated that liver transplantation results are more inferior than kidney transplantation, only 70-80% of recipients survive for at least 1 year.…”
