“…9,[15][16] A Swiss research involving the use of Bryophyllum as a sleeping aid in cancer patients showed that the plant was well tolerated, with fatigue, dry throat, difficult digestion and agitation only reported in 6 of the 28 patients. 17 The statistically significant improvement in sleep seen in those patients was not reproduced in our investigation; however the Swiss study used much larger doses of Bryophyllum (350mg to 700mg per day). Sexual function is a complicated interplay of both physical and psychological factors, with stressors of either nature leading to an appreciable decrease in function.…”

“…In a further study, the effect of B. pinnatum on sleep quality was assessed in 20 cancer patients. Treatment (3 weeks) with chewable tablets (mostly 2 × 2 tablets per day) resulted in a decrease of the Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) from 12.2 to 9.1, and sleepiness was slightly reduced [78]. The behavioral neuropharmacology of B. pinnatum aqueous leaf extract was investigated in mice, and neurosedative, CNS depressant, and anxiolytic activities were found.…”

“…Various herbal preparations using aqueous extracts of leaves from K. pinnata are used worldwide; especially in Anthroposophic medicine in Germany, Switzerland and Brazil (Fürer et al ., ; Hosomi et al ., ; Simões‐Wüst et al ., ). Chewable tablets manufactured from K. pinnata leaves (350 mg, 50% leaf pressed juice on lactose, corresponding to 175 mg of fresh plant per tablet) are recommended for the treatment of sleep disorders, anxiety, agitation, exhaustion and recurrent inflammatory conditions (Hosomi et al ., ; Simões‐Wüst et al ., ). These tablets have flavonoid glycosides as their major constituents and some bufadienolides as the minor ones (Simões‐Wüst et al ., ).…”
