“…Sleep disturbance is prevalent in cirrhosis patients. Previous studies have reported approximately 47.7–60% of cirrhosis patients experience sleep disturbance . Sleep disturbances are known to reduce the cognitive ability of patients with liver cirrhosis, which in turn exerts adverse effects on work and life, for example, in terms of day‐time fatigue, mood disturbance, and reduction in memory and attention .…”

“…Causes that lead to sleep disturbances in cirrhosis patients include psychological factors in addition to the factors of the disease, such as disrupting the level of melatonin in cirrhosis patients . The correlation of PSQI score with HAD (a) score represented anxiety, suggesting that sleep quality was closely related to psychological factors.…”

“…15 In a study conducted by Gencdal and others on 131 cirrhotic patients and 18 healthy volunteers, they found that sleep disorders were common in cirrhotic patients, most in Child C patients. 16 Also, Vinicius et al, studied sleep aspects and parameters in 42 cirrhotic patients, and 42 controls and assessed the role of liver dysfunction severity in polysomnographic results. They concluded that cirrhosis was associated with shorter sleep time, reduced sleep efficiency, increased sleep latency, increased REM latency and reduced REM sleep.…”

“…Although the comparison of these two questionnaires was not the goal of this study, we found that sleep disturbances measured with the STSQS were more closely related with liver cirrhosis than were those measured with PSQI. The STSQS appears to be a rather important questionnaire as we have found it to be a practical method to detect sleep disturbances in our previous study [17].…”
