“…Our previous validation study in a subcohort of the current population demonstrated that severe daytime sleepiness expressed as ESS≥16 was associated strongly with risk of MVA. A similar finding was reported by Howard et al (2004), while the ESS was not proven to predict MVA risk in other OSA populations (Amra et al, 2012). Therefore, the ESS is likely to reflect components of vigilance and cognitive function that are not sufficiently sensitive or specific to identify all OSA patients at risk.…”

“…The condition is associated with a two-to sevenfold increased risk for MVA (Amra et al, 2012;Howard et al, 2004;Teran-Santos et al, 1999). Treatment of OSA with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) eliminates apneas, reduces daytime symptoms (Sullivan et al, 1981;Tregear et al, 2010) and results in a reduction of the excess MVA risk.…”

“…The prevalence of the EDS in Turkey was estimated to be 5.4% in the TAPES study [6]. OSA is an important contributor to the occurrence of EDS in general population [11,12], and the condition is associated with a two-to sevenfold increased risk for MVA [11,13,14]. Crashes due to EDS typically involve running off the road or into the back of another vehicle [15].…”

“…They find the larger AADT and worse CR can significantly increase accidents. Amra et al [1] reveal that the most important predictors of motor vehicle accidents for Persian commercial professional drivers are larger neck circumference, history of witnessed apneas and high-risk Berlin questionnaire. Shin et al [15] study the relationship between car color (in terms of chromatic aberration) and car accident.…”
