ImportanceSeborrheic dermatitis is a prevalent chronic inflammatory skin disease, yet its global prevalence, pathogenesis, and epidemiology remain inadequately defined.ObjectiveTo provide a detailed estimation of the global prevalence of seborrheic dermatitis, analyze demographic variations, and explore differences in various settings.Data SourcesEmbase, PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews were searched from inception through October 2023.Study SelectionOriginal investigations on seborrheic dermatitis prevalence were included after duplicate screening of titles, abstracts, and full articles, including only studies with clinician-diagnosed cases.Data Extraction and SynthesisFollowing PRISMA guidelines, data were extracted and quality was assessed independently by multiple reviewers. A random-effects model using restricted maximum likelihood was used for meta-analysis and subgroup analyses.Main Outcome and MeasureThe primary outcome was the pooled estimate of global seborrheic dermatitis prevalence.ResultsFrom 1574 identified articles, 121 studies were included, encompassing 1 260 163 individuals and revealing a pooled global seborrheic dermatitis prevalence of 4.38% (95% CI, 3.58%-5.17%), with significant heterogeneity (I2 = 99.94%). Subgroup analyses showed variations by age, with a higher prevalence in adults (5.64% [95% CI, 4.01%-7.27%]) compared to children (3.70% [95% CI, 2.69%-4.80%]) and neonates (0.23% [95% CI, 0.04%-0.43%]). Geographic analyses indicated variability, with the highest prevalence in South Africa (8.82% [95% CI, 3.00%-14.64%]) and the lowest in India (2.62% [95% CI, 1.33%-3.92%]).Conclusions and RelevanceThis comprehensive meta-analysis provides a detailed estimation of the global prevalence of seborrheic dermatitis, highlighting significant variability across different demographics and settings.

Background: Scabies is referred to the infestation of skin by an ectoparasite, Sarcoptes scabiei. Having considerable financial consequences, this disease is a public health concern in several countries. In this review, we aimed to determine the current status of scabies in different provinces of Iran. Methods: Google Scholar, PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, Scientific Information Database (SID), Sci-explore, Civilica, Magiran, Iranian Research Institute for Information Science and Technology and Elmnet databases were searched to find the related data in the time period within 2000–2022. To have a better insight into the status of prevalence of scabies in Iran, a meta-analysis and meta-regression was performed. Results: A total of 943 relevant studies were retrieved from the databases, and 62 eligible studies met all the needed criteria for inclusion in this systematic review. Scabies was investigated and reported in at least 22 and 21 provinces of Iran respectively. Most of the studies were conducted in Tehran, Razavi Khorasan, Hormozgan, Fars and Guilan Provinces. Positive samples of scabies belonged to humans, sheep, goats, dogs, rabbits, mice and gazelles. Meta-analysis showed that the overall estimated presence of scabies in Iran during 2000–2022 was 7% (95% CI 4.7–10.3%, P< 0.001). Conclusion: Infestations due to S. scabiei in Iran occur in different geographical locations and different climates. As a neglected tropical disease, the literature about the burden of scabies in Iran is inadequate. The present review highlights the importance of development of comprehensive strategies for the diagnosis and control of scabies, especially the provinces with high infestation rates.

Introduction: The aim of this study was therefore to provide a detailed description of the dermatological conditions presented by prisoners and to determine their determining factors in the largest detention center in Guinea. Material and methods:This work took place in the central house of Conakry. It is a penitentiary establishment built at the beginning of the 20th century for a theoretical capacity of three hundred people. Its occupancy rate in 2013 was 377%, reflecting saturation. From April 1 to 17, 2013, we conducted a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study that included all prisoners with one or more dermatosis and who agreed to participate in the study. For each inmate, the different types of dermatosis were identified. The frequency of the shower, the use of soap for the shower, the change of clothes and the sanitation of the cells were analyzed by the Chi2 of Pearson at the threshold of 5%. The study was authorized by the prison authorities. Results: One thousand one hundred and thirty-one detainees were examined; 320 had dermatosis, a prevalence of 27.3%. They were 292 men and 28 women with an average age of 30 years and extremes of 15 and 70 years. Infectious dermatosis were the most represented, with 247 cases (77.2%) with a predominance of scabies in 146 inmates, and dermatophytis in 58 inmates. Non-infectious dermatosis accounted for 22.8% of dermatosis with a predominance of contact eczema noted in 27 patients. One hundred and eighty-nine (59%) patients showered irregularly, 62% did not use soap for the shower, 51% irregularly changed their clothes after showering, 70 % of the cells were irregularly cleaned. Seventy-five percent of patients had never had a dermatological consultation. We found a statistically significant relationship between the occurrence of infectious dermatosis and hygienic conditions in prison settings including the frequency of the shower, the use of soap and the frequency of changing clothes. Conclusion: The profile of skin disease observed in the Guinean prison environment is no different from that of the majority of resource-limited countries. These are pathology that can be the subject of preventive measures and/or can be aggravated by precarious conditions of hygiene and detention.
