A bibliographical search was carried out o n t h e e l e c t ro n i c d a t a b a s e s S c i e n t i f i c E l e t ro n i c L i b r a r y O n -l i n e ( S c i E L O ) , L a t i n -A m e r i c a n a n d C a r i b b e a n L i t e r a t u re o n H e a l t h S c i e n c e s ( L I L A C S ) and Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System O n l i n e ( M E D L I N E ) f o r t i t l e s p u b l i s h e d i n t h e p a s t decade (1997-2008). Thirteen articles, one technical note and two books considered relevant to the subject a n d p u b l i s h e d p r i o r t o 1 9 9 7 a re a l s o c i t e d i n t h e re v i e w. T h e re v i e w p r i o r i t i z e d s t u d i e s i n v o l v i n g randomized clinical trials and follow-up carried out among pregnant and post-partum women.
