Skene's Gland Adenocarcinoma Resembling Prostatic Adenocarcinoma

Abstract: An 88-year-old woman presented with gross hematuria and a 3-cm periurethral mass. Biopsy revealed an adenocarcinoma resembling prostatic adenocarcinoma; the tumor cells were positive for keratin and prostate-specific antigen. The serum level of prostate-specific antigen was elevated; the carcinoembryonic antigen and CA-125 serum levels were normal. One year after external beam radiotherapy, the patient is without evidence of disease. This is the sixth case of a urethral prostatic-type adenocarcinoma, tumors th… Show more

“…Ectopic prostatic tissues in the uterine cervix and vagina, including benign and malignant patterns, has been recorded. 4,5,8,9 Adenocarcinomas of paraurethral Skene glands have been noted to display distinct similarities to analogous lesions in the male prostate. 15 However, Skene gland hyperplasia, the equivalent of the most common lesion in the male prostate, is very unusual.…”

“…However, there are reported examples in the uterine cervix and vagina. 4,5,8,9,15 McCluggage and Young reported glands with positivity for both prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and prostatic acid phosphatase (PrAP) in a distinct vaginal lesion, the tubulosquamous polyp. 7 In this article, we present morphologically and histogenetically variable lesions occurring in the lower female genital tract with features of prostatic differentiation.…”
