Abstract:Epidemiological studies have consistently shown that Sjögren’s disease (SjD) increases the risk of dental caries. Despite similar evidence indicating an elevated risk of periodontitis, SjD remains a disputed risk factor for this disease. The risk of bias in observational research is a major impediment to confirming this link. Within an instrumental variable framework, genetic variants associated with a risk factor can be used to proxy its effect on an outcome while avoiding common sources of observational stud… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
