Size Characteristics of Sediments Eroded under Different Masson Pine Litter Covers in South China

Abstract: The particle size distribution characteristics of runoff sediments are vital for understanding the effect of the mechanism of soil erosion on slopes. The objective of this study was to investigate the particle-size distribution of sediments eroded from slopes covered by different litter coverage masses under artificial rainfall simulation. Litter was spread on the surface of a soil tank according to different biomasses (0 g·m−2, 100 g·m−2, 200 g·m−2 and 400 g·m−2). The mean weight diameter (MWD), fractal dimen… Show more

“…The fractal dimension of the weathered debris particle size was calculated 23 25 as follows: where D is the fractal dimension of weathered debris size; r is the size of weathered debris (μm); R i is the size of weathered waste of size class i (μm); R max is the extreme value of weathered debris size (μm); V ( r < R i ) is the volume fraction of weathered debris with soil size less than R i (%); V T is the sum of the volume fraction of each size class (%).…”

“…First, the choice of mulching type is fundamental, since it drives the application rate, cost and effectiveness of mulching. There is a correlation between different soil covers and slope water infiltration rates [51]. Second, the amount of mulching also directly affects soil moisture evaporation, soil moisture infiltration and soil moisture runoff status [52].…”
