Trace element distribution varies in different locations of the human brain. Several elements were found to cause various negative effects, such as neurodegeneration. In this paper, we analyzed the interactions between seven trace elements: zinc (Zn), selenium (Se), manganese (Mg), iron (Fe), copper (Cu), chromium (Cr) and cobalt (Co) in individuals with alcohol use disorder (AUD) and individuals without (control group). Brain tissue samples from 31 individuals with AUD and 31 control subjects were harvested. Inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry was used for trace element determination. In the control group, there were several positive correlations between Cr, Cu, Fe and Mn. In the AUD group, positive correlations between Co and Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn were found. The majority of correlations between Zn and other elements are positive. In the studied group, Mn had strong positive correlations with Co, Cr, Cu and Fe. The strongest positive correlation found between average element concentration was between Cu and Cr. The knowledge of kinetics and metabolism of trace elements as well as the impact of alcohol on these processes is essential for understanding the pathological processes and functioning of human brain tissue.

RESUMOIntrodução: Aneurismas intracranianos (AI) são uma dilatação anormal de uma artéria cerebral, causada pelo enfraquecimento da parede do vaso que ocorre devido fatores genéticos e adquiridos associados ao estresse mecânico do fluxo sanguíneo. Estudos mostram uma prevalência de cerca de 1,5 a 5% na população em geral. A ruptura é o desfecho mais comum de um AI, resultando na chamada hemorragia subaracnóidea. O tratamento dos aneurismas rotos e não rotos pode ser realizado através da técnica cirúrgica (clipagem e/ou wrapping) ou da técnica endovascular (embolização ou implante de diversor de fluxo). Objetivo: Analisar as características dos AI e o perfil dos pacientes tratados no INC. Assim como correlacionar alguns dados entre si. Método: Estudo descritivo com amostra composta por 254 prontuários clínicos de pacientes tratados no INC devido a aneurisma intracraniano, no período compreendido entre 2010 e 2016. Foram avaliadas as seguintes variáveis: quantidade de aneurisma, sexo, idade que realizou o procedimento, fatores de risco, localização, tamanho, ocorrência ou não de ruptura aneurismática, complicação do aneurisma e da técnica. Além disso, foi realizada correlação entre alguns dados. Para realização das correlações foi usado o teste de Qui-quadrado ou o teste exato de Fisher. Resultado: Os aneurismas foram mais frequentes nas mulheres (n=187; 73,7%) do que nos homens (n=67; 26,3%). A idade média de realização do procedimento foi de 54,6 anos. HAS estava presente em 126 pacientes (44,7%), o tabagismo em 35 (12,4%), a dislipidemia em 32 (11,3%), presença de história familiar de aneurisma em 18 (6,4%), reposição hormonal em 4 (1,4%), história prévia de rotura de aneurisma em 1 (0,3%) e DAC em 1 (0,3%). Dos aneurismas, 263 (91,8%) encontravam-se na circulação anterior e 19 (8,2%) na circulação posterior. Referente ao tamanho, 218 (77,3%) eram pequenos, 49 (17,4%) médios, 15 (5,3%) grandes. Foram submetidos à técnica cirúrgica (clipagem e wrapping) 112 pacientes (39,7%) e 170 (60,3%) ao tratamento endovascular (embolização e implante de diversor de fluxo). Conclusão: Obteve-se predomínio de pacientes com apenas um AI, do sexo feminino, com idade média de 54,6 anos; os fatores de risco mais prevalentes foram hipertensão e tabagismo. Os AI eram predominantemente pequenos, localizados na circulação anterior e não rotos. A técnica endovascular, principalmente a embolização, foi o tratamento mais realizado para o manejo dos AI.
