“…Of the other small congeners, A. martini is most similar to A. minusculum (see Marques et al 1997a) from Urolophus tumbesensis from Ecuador in hook and locular length ratios, size and testis number but has hooks of a different form, a submarginal and more posterior genital pore, a larger cirrus sac and an H-shaped ovary with lobes extending to the cirrus sac. Acanthobothrium martini differs from A. tripartitum from Britain in possessing fewer testes per segment (8-11 v. 13-16) and more segments (9-13 v. 3).…”

“…Of the species reported from Dasyatis longus from Pacific coastal waters of Costa Rica (Marques et al 1995(Marques et al , 1997a, A. campbelli is very similar to A. lasti but A. lasti differs in having an average of equal numbers of prevaginal (4.3) and post-vaginal testes (4.1) versus an average of six and three for the same regions in A. campbelli, a posterior instead of an anterior curvature of the cirrus sac, more anterior position of the genital pore (33-38% of segment length v. 41-50%) and lack of a vaginal sphincter (present in A. campbelli). Acanthobothrium lasti differs from all other congeners in its combination of the ratio of locular lengths, testis number and distribution, position of the genital pore, presence of a vaginal sphincter, total hook length and hook form.…”
