“…Three species: Platypalpus caucasicus Kovalev, 1967, P. kintrishiensis (Kustov et al 2015) and P. subcaucasicus (Kustov et al 2015) have three notopleurals bristles and thus differ from the European subgroup that have only two notopleurals. Only P. odintosovi (Kustov et al 2014) has two notopleurals and resembles most P. cursitans as is discussed above. The invertebrate fauna of Greece has only sporadically been investigated and numbers around 27,000 species while several more thousands are still waiting to be detected.…”

“…The genus Platypalpus Macquart is a megadiverse genus with more than 250 species known from Europe and although several revisions of the European species were done in the last century (Collin, 1961;Chvála, 1975Chvála, , 1989Grootaert & Chvála, 1992) still new species are found in Europe (Barták & Kubík, 2015, 2016 and in the Middle East (Barták & Kubík, 2018;Kustov et al, 2014Kustov et al, , 2015.…”

“…Hybotids are yellow to black flies, small (mostly 1-7 mm), and the vast majority of known species are predators and are usually found on vegetation, logs, stones and other surfaces (Barták and Kubík 2018). Despite extensive research on this family in the West Palaearctic, and especially Europe, still many new species have been recently described, for example from the genera Bicellaria (Barták and Kubík 2013), Chersodromia (Grootaert et al , 2012b, Drapetis (Michelsen and Grootaert 2019), Euthyneura (Shamshev and Kustov 2012), Hybos (Shamshev et al 2015), Platypalpus (Grootaert 2008;Grootaert et al 2012aKustov et al 2014Kustov et al , 2015Barták and Kubík 2015, 2016Grootaert and Alexiou 2020), Syndyas (Shamshev and Grootaert 2012), Tachydromia (Gonçalves et al 2021) and Trichina (Barták and Kubík 2009). Moreover, the diversity of hybotids has probably been greatly underestimated in several regions, e.g.…”

“…The genus Platypalpus Macquart, 1827 (Hybotidae: Tachydromiinae) (Sinclair & Cumming 2006), is a megadiverse genus with more than 600 species described worldwide (Yang et al 2007(Yang et al , 2010Grootaert 2008;Huo et al 2010;Grootaert & Shamshev 2006, 2014Yang & Li 2011;Kustov & Shamshev 2014, 2015; De Freitas-Silva & Ale-Rocha 2013; Barták & Shamshev 2015;Barták & Kubík 2015). The genus has been extensively studied mainly in the Palaearctic Region, where about 370 species are currently known, but the majority of them (263) have been recorded from Europe including the Mediterranean and some adjacent territories, Caucasus, and Turkey.…”
