Challenges could be observed as opportunities for success. The growth of project management body of knowledge and the advancement of project managers' capabilities in dealing with resources are crucial to the successful delivery of projects. As the main objective of this paper is to overview the key challenges for project managers in the current century to help the Future Built Environment, a systematic literature review analysis on PM features was conducted by evaluating over 256 published research papers under the Project Management topic during the past 15 years (2003)(2004)(2005)(2006)(2007)(2008)(2009)(2010)(2011)(2012)(2013)(2014)(2015)(2016)(2017)(2018). As result of this exploration, the research highlighted 18 main challenges and over 125 parameters related to challenges in projects from the extant literature. The management of uncertainty and dealing with different challenges are necessary conditions for effective project management. Sources of challenges are wide ranging and have fundamental effects on projects and the project management body of knowledge. These challenges are not limited to specific industries, and include scope management, information technology, team dynamics, customers' satisfaction, lean management, communication, innovation and quality. Common project management body of knowledge does not address many of the listed sources of challenges, particularly in 'soft' project management skills where flexibility and tolerance of PMs are necessary. The findings of this review paper help scholars to put their attempts on key challenges in managing projects effectively. Such attempts need to entail project managers' capabilities as well as the organization maturities including some aspects of organisation culture and learning.

Achievements to date and existing research gaps in project management in the light of literature studies

The purpose of this article was to identify current development directions and potential research gaps in project management. Design/methodology/approach: The method of systematic review of articles published in the Elsevier-Science Direct database in the years 2000-2019 was used, where the search phrase was "project management" and the type of articles was "research articles". In order to answer the research questions posed, an additional method of analysis and criticism of the literature was used. Findings: The following conclusions were drawn from the analysis of the articles: a) almost a third of them concerned the practical application of PM issues in one clearly defined sector of the economy, with the most common reference being to the building sector and IS/IT, b) most articles were created in English-speaking countries (47%), c) the largest number of articles concerned the area of human resource (HR) management, including many subjects of qualifications and leadership, d) of the ten areas of knowledge specified in PMBoK, "HR" and "scheduling/time" were the most popular, followed by risk-related issues. Practical implications: The findings of this article would contribute to building a strong and coherent theory and identify best practices in project management. Originality/value: The most important achievement is the recognition of two areas of knowledge-lean management and game theory-where little research has been done so far, and whose solutions and methods could be successfully implemented inside PM.

Dentre os métodos de pesquisa, o Estudo de Caso é um dos mais populares. No entanto, por vezes, pesquisas calcadas nesse método recebem críticas quanto a forma de aplicação. Além disso, existe uma escassez de estudos que analisam o uso do método Estudo de Caso no campo científico do gerenciamento de projetos. Portanto, existe a necessidade de ampliar os conhecimentos sobre a aplicação desse método nessa área. Assim, o objetivo deste artigo é descrever como o método Estudo de Caso está sendo aplicado ao camp o do gerenciamento de projetos. Para isso, foram selecionados 40 artigos de gerenciamento de projetos de periódicos nacionais e internacionais publicados ao longo de sete anos (2011 -2017), os quais adotaram a mencionada técnica como método de pesquisa. Quanto à abordagem, este trabalho é de cunho qualitativo, os artigos selecionados foram examinados sob a natureza descritiva e a análise dos mesmos se guiou pela Análise de Conteúdo. A pesquisa proveu informações para guiar a condução de pesquisas com Estudos de Caso no campo do gerenciamento de projetos, apresentando as diferenças entre estudos nacionais e internacionais.Palavras-chave: Método de Pesquisa. Estudo de Caso. Gerenciamento de Projetos. USE OF CASE STUDY METHOD IN PROJECT MANAGEMENT RESEARCH ABSTRACTAmong the research methods, the Case Study is one of the most popular. However, sometimes surveys based on this method are criticized on how to apply it. In addition, there is a shortage of studies that analyze the use of the Case Study method in the scientific field of project management. Therefore, there is a need to increase knowledge about the application of this method in this area. Thus, the purpose of this article is to describe how the Case Study method is being applied to the field of project management. For this, we selected 40 project management articles from national and international journals published in the last seven years (2011 -2017), which adopted the mentioned technique as a research method. Regarding the approach, this work is qualitative, the articles selected were examined under the descriptive nature and their analysis was guided by Content Analysis. The research provided information to guide the conduction of research with Case Studies in the field of project management, presenting the differences between national and international studies.
