Situation of violence against unmarried women in times of Covid-19 in Peru

Abstract

The main objective of this research is to determine the increase in violence against unmarried women during the Covid-19 period in Peru, since during the quarantine period there was a reduction in cases of violence against women, however, with the end of this period, cases of violence increased in large numbers, remaining on a large scale between the end of 2020 and the rest of 2021. A non-experimental, quantitative, descriptive, retrospective methodology was used, as well as the data collection means, the gures provided by the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations based on the cases attended by the Women's Emergency Centers implemented at the national level; However, due to the quarantine established at the national level by the Government, these centers did not function; therefore, in 2020 data was collected from the Itinerant Emergency Teams, while in 2021 and 2022 data was collected from the Women's Emergency Centers (regular, 7x24, police stations and health centers). It is concluded that the most prevalent type of violence against unmarried women is psychological, followed by physical violence, with a small difference in the number of victims between the two types of violence, and to determine the age group that suffers the most violence, it was divided into 3 groups, the most affected being 18 to 35 years old (53.1%), followed by the group between 36-59 years old (39.1%)
